An Update

Hi everyone!
An update about what I’ve been up to for the past… year… and a little about what’s going on currently:

Phantom Regiment 2010 had an awesome summer. I was so honored to be a member of such a talented, hard-working group. ‘Into the Light’ was an incredible, inspiring show. I didn’t think I would be up for a third summer, but December rolled around and I knew I couldn’t stay away, so I’ll be going in for my age-out season this summer. ‘Juliet’ will be awesome!
The fall semester was pretty uneventful. School as usual. I qualified for NTC 2011 Semifinals in the Undergraduate Solo Division, and had a lot of fun down in DC over Spring Break. I performed the first movement of Dana Wilson’s Concerto for Trumpet (“Leader Lieder”).
My senior recital was April 9th and was well-received by most everyone, I believe. I’ll have video up soon, hopefully!

In other news, barring any extraordinary events, academic sabotage, or acts of God, I will be graduating in two weeks and receiving my BM Performance from IU. I’ve had a wonderful time here at the Jacobs School and I’ve learned a lot, especially from my lessons with Joey. I was fortunate enough to be accepted to the University of Michigan for my Master’s in performance. In the fall, I’ll be moving up there to study with Bill Campbell. Go Blue!

That’s all for now! Look for that senior recital video in a week or so.

Hi there again!

I am so excited to finally have the recordings of my recital up on YouTube!  They are also now in the Video section.  The recital was two weeks ago yesterday, and I had a thoroughly great time playing some great literature.

This weekend I played with David Baker’s jazz band for IU’s annual Big Band Extravanganza.  It was a night full of great swing music from a bygone era.  We had some alumni come and sing with us in a close harmony ensemble – they sounded great too!  Now that the Extravaganza is over, that means I have no more concerts for this semester, which is good because I need some time to get stuff together.  This week I’m actually accompanying a friend of mine, Billy Gerlach, on Legende for trumpet, by Georges Enesco.  I really enjoy the piano part, but I’m a little nervous – I haven’t performed on the piano in a year or so!  He sounds awesome, though, and I’m sure it will go great.

My newest trumpet project is working up Jolivet’s beastly 2nd concerto, which has been giving me grief since I began learning it.  I’m not one to back down from a challenge, though, and I hope to be able to put it on my senior recital and even perform it as my audition for the IU brass concerto competition.  I may even record it to send to the National Trumpet Competition!

In other news, I’m learning how to lead belay (and climb) on Tuesday!  I’m really excited!  I haven’t been able to use my climbing rope in so long, and I’m glad I will have an excuse to finally put it to good use.

I’m also getting ready to go on the road with Phantom Regiment for my second summer!  It’s hard to believe move-ins are only a month away.  We had a camp this weekend, which I unfortunately could not attend because of the concert.  This means I’ll really have to work hard and learn the drill we went over at camp!  I’m really looking forward to the start of the summer, and I’ll try to keep some things posted up here during tour.

Hello!

Hi there!

This website is dedicated to the life and stylings of the fabulous and fascinating Stephanie Tuck – trumpet player, climber, jet-setter (wait, scratch that last part).

Eventually I hope to have some pictures, audio and video up, as well as a schedule of upcoming events.

Hope you enjoy!
